Our Heritage

Wellburn Care Homes is a family-run business that was established in 1986 and opened its first care home a year later in 1987. Since then we have gone from strength to strength and now own and operate 14 homes across the North East of England and Yorkshire.

Despite this rapid growth, we have never forgotten our roots and our ethos then is the same as it is now - to provide ‘Care without Compromise’.

We are committed to the highest standards of care for residents, providing a real ‘home from home’ environment designed to ensure they settle into their new surroundings quickly and with the minimum amount of upheaval.

The vast majority of our homes are either Grade 2 Listed or situated in a conservation area, and we also invest a great deal of time, and money, on landscaping the surrounding areas, such as the gardens, spending more than double the national average on these improvements. The quality of many of our gardens has been rubber-stamped by our success in Britain-in-Bloom competitions.

Wellburn Care Homes also prides itself on the quality of its staff. An ongoing training and personal development programme ensures staff turnover is low and this plays an important part in the ensuring our residents receive the best care possible in a warm, stimulating and friendly environment.

  • We have 14 Homes in the Group, of which 10 are residential, 2 are nursing and 2 are dual registered. We also have a Day Centre.
  • We have 573 Beds with plans to increase this to 583 and we have places for 30 in our Day Centre.
  • 95% of our rooms are single with 76% ensuite.
  • Most of our Homes are in high quality period buildings – we own 8 Conservation units of which 4 are Grade II listed.
  • Our principal aim is the ambience in our Homes, including the gardens and outside spaces.
  • Our experienced and dedicated Management Team have a proven track record in both the property and healthcare industry.
  • Finalists in 4 Care and Design Awards.
  • Winners of 12 Garden Awards.
  • We have approximately 570 Employees. Investors in People was awarded in September 2000 and we have a high NVQ training profile.
  • ISO 9000 Accreditation achieved November 2004.
