"Grimston is amazing from the outside but the atmosphere inside is even better and it really does feel like being at home." - Brian Horsley
Trying to find a suitable care home for one parent is difficult enough but for two parents it is even harder.
This was the dilemma facing Brian and Elaine Horsley when Brian’s father Arthur was admitted to hospital in November 2010.
With Arthur’s wife Pat already suffering from vascular dementia, Brian and Elaine knew it would no longer be possible for their parents to stay in their own home in York.
Elaine visited a number of care homes in the York area, but apart from not being impressed with any of them, none of the homes could take Arthur, 84, and Pat, 83.
Brian and Elaine were then recommended Grimston Court, which is owned by Wellburn Care Homes, by City of York Council.
Elaine visited Grimston Court and when she reported back to Brian she said “It’s gorgeous.”
Pat moved into Grimston in November 2010 and Arthur followed a few weeks after once he had been discharged from hospital. The pair have settled well and Brian and Elaine say they are happy they made the right choice.
Brian said: “The manager is so genuine, the staff are very professional and we like the fact they are so well trained and that staff turnover is so low.”
“Grimston looks amazing from the outside but the atmosphere inside is even better and it feels like being at home.”
“My mum loved Grimston Court from the start as she is a real people person and being around others has given her a new lease of life as she has not had that over the last three to four years.”
“My father is getting stronger each day and that again is down to the staff who have helped in his rehabilitation.”
“The best thing I can say about Grimston Court is it is like a five-star hotel.”
